Adam Leighton
National Representative – Israel
I'm a therapist, group facilitator, and adventure therapy practitioner. My focus lies in integrating nature with evidence-based psychotherapy, especially CBT/ACT. Over the years, I've worked across diverse settings—from clinical practice to wilderness-based programs—and witnessed how powerful nature can be as a space for emotional processing, growth, and connection.
I currently lead the therapist training program at Gome Gevim College and developed a Nature-Based CBT Group Facilitation Program at Ruppin Academic Center. Through my organization, Netivei Erech, I facilitate outdoor experiential learning programs focused on leadership, resilience, and wellbeing.
My work includes designing and leading nature-based workshops, therapeutic treks, and training seminars. I’ve organized professional events through the Adventure & Nature Therapy Israel network and collaborate regularly on group journeys with veterans, particularly through the Beshvil HaMachar project, which blends structured therapeutic tools with immersive nature experiences.
What drew me to this work was the realization that I’m most fulfilled when facilitating deep human connection—especially outdoors. Nature strips away what’s unnecessary and reveals what matters. Time spent outdoors—mindfully, with intention—can reconnect people to themselves and others in profound ways.
Why encourage others in my region to do this?
Nature-based approaches offer powerful ways to improve mental health, build trust, and complement traditional therapies. These methods feel intuitive and increasingly necessary in our present reality. I hope to support more therapists in integrating nature into their practice. In my role as national representative, I’m focused on expanding awareness, disseminating knowledge and access to nature-based therapy. My long-term goal is to help it gain formal recognition and inclusion in both public mental health services and academic institutions.
