The Research and Proceedings Workgroup of the International Association of Adventure and Nature-Based Therapy (IAANT) is dedicated to advancing knowledge and professional excellence in our field. We support IAANT’s mission by building a community of researchers, fostering dialogue, curiosity and the dissemination of research-based insights and promoting credible academic work that enhances the practice and understanding of adventure and nature-based therapies.
Guided by the core values of IAANT, we uphold principles of ethics, integrity, collaboration, inclusivity, and respect for diverse perspectives in research and practice. In alignment with the principles of open access, we advocate for the free and accessible sharing of knowledge, recognizing the inherent tension between broad dissemination and the existing norms of academic publishing. As part of this commitment, the proceedings of the ATIC/IAANT International Conference will, when possible, be made openly accessible to the public.
By navigating these challenges with integrity and innovation, we strive to cultivate an informed, supportive, collaborative, respectful and globally engaged community of practitioners, researchers, and educators.
IAANT (formerly IATC) Proceedings Journal
The IAANT (formerly IATC) Proceedings Journal invites contributions from practitioners, researchers, and educators engaged in the dynamic field of adventure and nature-based therapy — a practice that weaves together therapeutic approaches with experiences in nature, movement, and intentional challenge to foster personal and collective transformation. The Proceedings aim to reflect the richness and diversity of this global field, offering space for both scholarly insight and grounded field experience.
9TH INTERNATIONAL ADVENTURE THERAPY CONFERENCE
3RD GATHERING FOR ADVENTURE THERAPY IN EUROPE
With the conference returning to Europe, 9IATC was merged with the 3rd Gathering for Adventure Therapy in Europe (3GATE). Due to the pandemic and the one-year postponement, the 2022 conference in Norway marked the 25th anniversary of IATC.
As the first hybrid IATC, offering live streaming and digital presentations, the 9IATC/3GATE gathered nearly 400 attendees in Southern Norway and 150 online participants from a total of 42 nations. Of these, counted 50 students, 42 volunteers and 18 organisers. Find more information about the conference theme, programme and photo gallery below.
