Nataliia Salimova

Co-organizer of the “Mountain Therapy” project and the Kayaking School

Region: Ukraine

Experience: Organizing programs in adventure tourism, hiking, and water-based activities. Through Mountain Therapy, we support veterans in their transition back to civilian life using mountains, sports, and nature. In the Kayaking School, the focus is on both physical and psychological recovery through kayaking and teamwork.

Motivation: Adventure tourism is not only my personal source of renewal but also a powerful tool that truly helps others.

Why encourage others? Because this work builds more than skills — it builds resilience, solidarity, and stronger communities where veterans feel supported.

Maksym Chubyk

I am honored to represent Ukraine in the field of Adventure and Nature-Based Therapies. With a background that combines both military service and professional psychology, I bring a deep understanding of resilience, healing, and the power of nature in recovery and growth.

For more than two decades, I have been actively engaged in outdoor leadership, mountaineering, and guiding expeditions across Ukraine and abroad. I have led over one hundred ascents and multi-day hikes, including challenging routes in the Carpathians and beyond. In recent years, I have focused my efforts on designing and facilitating rehabilitation camps for veterans, where mountain hikes, river rafting, and group activities in nature become powerful tools for psychological support and reintegration.

My work is also rooted in academic training. I am currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Practical Psychology at the National University of Water and Environmental Engineering in Rivne, as well as a Master’s in Global Management at the American University Kyiv. This combination of psychological knowledge, leadership, and management equips me to create programs that are both impactful and sustainable.

What drew me to this work is both personal and professional. Having served as an officer in war, I know firsthand how trauma shapes lives. I also know how nature, shared challenges, and supportive communities can restore strength, trust, and purpose. Adventure-based practices allow individuals not only to heal but to rediscover themselves.

I encourage others in Ukraine and across the region to join this movement because the need is urgent and the potential is vast. Our landscapes—mountains, rivers, and forests—are not just beautiful; they are healing spaces. By integrating therapeutic practices into outdoor activities, we can support veterans, youth, and communities in building resilience and hope for the future.

Adventure and Nature-Based Therapies are not only about recovery; they are about transformation.
